Sencore TC28 Mighty Mite VII Tube Tester
- Calibrated -
This Sencore TC28 is in great condition and includes the original box. The box is not in the greatest shape.
This has been completely recapped with IT electrolytics and Sprague capacitors.
The four rubber feet on the bottom have been replaced with new silicone feet.
Includes a the Sencore service manual and schematic (not shown in the pics), a DVD with tube data and information for other Sencore tube testers.
The Sencore Mighty Mite series of tube testers are the best for finding shorts or leakage in a tube, as well as the life test. I was testing the tubes I put up for sale on my own Sencore TC28 before testing them on a Hickok for micromhos values, but stopped because it was too time consuming.
Testing on a TC28 has convinced me to start doing that again since a 5Y3GT (rectifier) tested almost NOS on a Hickok, and when I tested this same 5Y3 on this and many other Sencore TC162/TC28s, it became salient the tube was weak and out of life (see pic 6 for that same 5Y3 failing the life test).
Everything works, shorts, grid leakage, emissions, and life test.
The TC28 is the best tube tester Sencore made. The TC28 and TC162 are similar tube testers and share the same tube data, but the TC28 is a larger tester than can stand on its own out of the case, has a much larger and easier to read meter, and can also test transistors.
I also prefer testing sweep tubes and rectifiers on a Sencore since emissions is what you are testing and more likely to weed out a short, leakage, or a weak tube.
Easy setup and all solid state. This Sencore does not test the older style tubes so please know what tubes this can test before purchasing.
The TC28 was calibrated per the calibration instructions included in the Service manual and on the DVD that is included (no adjustments were needed).
All the sockets that tubes were tested in were very tight and no issues and put a new 9-pin noval socket saver on the noval socket. ***I put the socket saver on this particular socket since this is the socket used to test 12AX7s and the like, and it is the newer 10 pin socket. That 10th pin is not needed and only used on 2 tubes that I am aware of, and those tubes were used in TVs only for a brief time, and very doubtful you will ever need to test a tube today using the 10th pin. I eliminated the 10th pin and put a socket saver on that can now be easily changed if the socket saver wears out.
If you plan on testing a lot of Compactron tubes you can ask me about socket savers for those sockets. I have some and they were not cheap, and I will install them for the cost of the socket saver. The same is true for the 7-pin min socket.
Tubes tested include 5Y3GT, 12AX7, 6AQ5, 6C4, 6AU6 (pictured), 6KM6, in a compactron socket, and a used 6LF6 (pictured) in the other compactron socket that tested as good as NOS and no movement on the life test and no leakage.
Included is a DVD which includes the manual for this TC28, tube data, schematic, calibration; which needs a jig made in an octal socket, or you can buy the jig already made, and other manuals and tube data for similar Sencore tube testers including the TC162 and MU150.
This is a bigger beefier tube tester that will remain supported when removed from the case, has a nice big easy to read meter, as compared to the very small TC162 tube tester which is the same tester, but the TC28 has the additional transistor test capabilities which I did not test and very high probability it works. Also, the TC162 does not have the ability to be used outside the case as the TC28.The Sencore TC28 is the best tube tester Sencore made.
The calibration test adapter and calibration tubes that may be seen in some of the pictures are not included. If you have any questions please ask before buying.
Will be packed in a 18X12X8" box weighing 18 pounds.
